The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre has just completed its biggest year yet – both in terms of event numbers and financial success, chief executive officer Peter King said at Dreamtime 2013.
The centre hosted the Dreamtime business sessions on December 9 and King addressed media at a pre-expo breakfast.
‘We had 150 events this year, including the World Diabetes Congress last week – which was the biggest event we have had here to date.’
He says the diabetes event attracted some 10,000 delegates but is just a forerunner of things to come next year. The World Aids Congress is expected to attract up to 15,000 delegates and events such as World Cancer and World Cardiology will also be in the 10,000 to 15,000 range.
